Picture this: you are heading back to the office after an important delivery. The sun is setting in, and the weather is getting foggy. You turn on your lights and – surprise – the left headlight is not working.
One of the most common problems drivers face is their headlights failing when they least expect it. Fortunately, this is an easy-fix problem…but it’s still often a hassle. Luckily, there’s a better way.
LED lighting is a great alternative to traditional incandescent or halogen headlights. Not only are they incredibly versatile and can serve many different lighting functions, but they are also much brighter and more economical in both power consumption and longevity.
That’s not to say you shouldn’t take proper care of them. To make sure you always keep your truck’s lighting equipment in top shape and your driving safety sharp and steady, you need to start implementing a clear lighting maintenance routine:
- Keep Them Clean
Many pay a lot of attention to keeping their car looking nice and clean but yet tend to neglect the lights when they might as well be the most important ones when cleaning. Not only do you keep visibility sharp and road safety strong, but this also gives you the opportunity to make sure one light isn’t dimmer/brighter than the other.
- Check Brake Lights
You shouldn’t leave this lighting check for the car wash – especially not when it comes to the brake lights. The last thing you want is to have your brake light out without you even knowing. Get a buddy with you and have him/her sit behind the wheels and inspect all lights while you systematically turn them on and off.
- Keep Them Aligned and Even
The thing about lights is that you want them to be even and aligned. If there is any difference between them, it can be very distracting to other drivers which only translates to increased risk on the road. Not to mention they can be very disturbing to you as well. If you ever have to change one of the lights, change it on the other side as well and always keep them in pairs.
- Check and Change Annually
While LED lights might still be functional after one year of usage, it is recommended to change them annually. Waiting for them to burn out is simply not a wise decision since it can happen in the worst of moments.
- Get Regular Eye Exams
This last piece of advice might sound a little bizarre, but if you think about it for a second, it makes a lot of sense. You could install the most high-tech LED lighting system in the world. If your eyesight is not sharp, it won’t make any difference to you. So, get your eyes checked once a year, especially so if you already wear glasses or contacts. If the thought of having to change your lenses feels uncomfortable, it all comes down to ensure your safety while driving.
