Finding the Most Fuel Efficient Cargo Van

Finding the most fuel efficient cargo van is becoming a very common goal.  Not only to save money for your business but to also have a more “green” and environmentally friendly fleet. Becoming a more environmentally sustainable business not only provides cost savings but a more favorable public sentiment. This article provides three outstanding choices for fuel efficient cargo vans, though not as big as other cargo vans.  If your business doesn’t require the extra room, you’ll certainly enjoy the fuel savings!

Finding the Most Fuel Efficient Cargo Van

When finding the most fuel efficient cargo van, the first thing your business must decide is how large of a van do you really need? Does your business require a lot of tools that all need to fit in one van or can you get away with a smaller van in order to save money on fuel? If a smaller van can suit your business needs, the following are excellent choices:

1. The Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van

The Ford Transit Connect Cargo Van is the first noteworthy, fuel efficient cargo van on our list. The Transit Connect’s standard 169-hp 4-cylinder returns an impressive 21 miles per gallon in the city and 29 mpg on the highway, while an optional 178-hp turbocharged 4-cylinder returns 22 mpg city/30 mpg hwy. With these numbers, the Ford Transit Connect is changing the way people look at commercial vans. It’s compact size and maneuverability makes the Transit Connect Cargo Van ideal for working in tight spaces and urban areas. This is best for businesses who value fuel economy and nimbleness rather than just cargo room. Small size is also a strong point, as the Transit Connect is no longer than a midsize Ford Fusion sedan, even in the van’s long-wheelbase form.

2. Nissan NV200

The NV200 is also a smaller option in terms of cargo vans and features front-wheel-drive architecture and a 131-hp 4-cylinder engine mated to a fuel-saving CVT automatic. The Nissan NV200 provides an impressive 24 mpg city/25 mpg hwy. The price is also a great selling point, starting around $22,000.

So, what’s the drawback? The NV200 is small, competing with the Ford Transit Connect. Cargo volume is just 122.7 cu ft., and maximum cargo height is just 53.3 in. In other words, this is a van for city dwellers who emphasize size over power.

3. RAM ProMaster

The third and final fuel efficient cargo van on our list is the RAM ProMaster. With a load floor length of 87.2 inches, and 48.4 inches of cargo width between wheel wells, it’s a great option for your business.

The RAM Promaster is offered as either a cargo van or as a passenger wagon, and all models are powered by a 178-hp 2.4-liter four-cylinder mated to a nine-speed automatic driving the front wheels. The RAM ProMaster emphasizes economy, space and great features like the integrated cargo tie downs.  The fuel economy is rated at 29 mpg on the highway and 21 mpg in the city.

The ProMaster City is offered in two basic body styles — Cargo Van and Passenger Wagon. The Cargo Van only features seats in the front of the vehicle and with a large load area behind them. This makes it ideal as an urban delivery vehicle or even a small mobile workshop.
